A number of shipmates from the R-5 Divison are planning a Division reunion this coming Spring in Palm Springs. For those who don't remember, R-5 Division included the Electronics Repair (including sonar)the Calibration Lab and the Teletype Repair Shop. So far interested members include Harry Dillon, Richard McKissock, Rudy Dory, Sheldon Windley, Bill Hanxel, James Cave, Richard Lillie, Marshall Godwin and myself. We would like to hear from other R-5 Division members.

Well Shipmates if you were there, you know how much fun we had together and all the fun we had doing the things we did and seen. What a time, but like all good things, they had to come to an end. I thank everyone that came and for those that wanted to, but just couldn't this year. We look forward to next year. Ahoy Mates, Paul

I was on board the Markab in the middle 60s and the ship went to Vung Tau Vietnamn for a few days of repair..However, Markab was not on the list of ships who went to Vung Tau..The CO was Captain Charles Gibson...Great site...God bless everyone..

Pastor Bill & Janice
It's been some time since we have been in touch. Bob's health has been going down the past few months, hospitalized in May with shortness of breath. Drs. discovered lesions in his lungs are growing. Bob told them "no more surgery, no chemo, when God's ready for me, that's it". So I've become his caregiver while he is also on Hospice" at home, not an easy task.
Two weeks ago I was hospitalized, so following another CT next week, our kids think it best if we go to Assisted Living. At this point, I think I agree.
Going through files today brought up the USS Markab, so assume the reunion is in the offing. If you are able to attend, enjoy, life gets shorter every day. We have a new e-mail address for the past 8 mos., and I've lost the address of the gentleman who was doing the writing recently.

Blessings to you all. We surely miss the ability to travel, always enjoyed the reunions.

Helen Dunham

I received a note from Rose Marie Syder the other day. Her father Thomas H. Creason was on the Markab. She did not mention the time period. She stated that her Father was kind of a quite man and did not really talk much about his pass. She would love to hear from anyone that knew him during the time period on the ship. If you have anything to share with her, please contact me by email, so I can confirm and then I will send her address. Thank you. This website can be a real source of sharing experiences from the past. I know we all have stories, etc. and some family memebers would love to hear them. Thank you Paul Beyer for the Creason family inquirey.
